WEC: Lamborghini talks future hypercar

In 2024, Lamborghini plans to come to the WEC with the latest sports prototype of the LMDh class, which is being developed in collaboration with Ligier, and we talked about it.

The Italian company decided that it was time to share some information about this project with the press and made public some technical characteristics of the future car.

Like all sports prototypes in the Hypercar category, Lamborghini will be equipped with a 500 kW (681 hp) hybrid powertrain, which consists of an internal combustion engine and a standard ERS system. At the same time, the Italian company is developing the engine itself, entrusted to the Squadra Corse racing division, which is already working on a V8 engine project with a 90-degree cylinder angle and two turbochargers.

The Lamborghini hypercar, which will compete in two championships – in the FIA WEC and in the American IMSA Endurance Cup – is designed for a maximum speed of 340 km/h with a car weight of 1030 kg (without driver and fuel). In accordance with the technical regulations of the LMDh category, the length of the machine is 5100 mm, the width is 2000 mm, the wheelbase is 3148 mm.

Lamborghini has a long-standing partnership with France’s Ligier Automotive, the two companies have a lot of experience working together in GT3 racing and the Super Trofeo mono series.

In addition to being considered one of the world’s leading endurance racing chassis builders, Ligier also has its own division, HP Composites, which manufactures components from composite materials. Therefore, a joint project with Ligier in Lamborghini is considered an absolutely logical choice.
