Mercedes brought new wings to Miami

The start of the season for Mercedes turned out to be completely different from what the team had expected. After four races, Mercedes has no wins, no poles and only two podiums. Both in qualifying and in the race, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing cars are faster. Rather than battling the leaders, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will face rivals from McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Haas and AlphaTauri.

The Mercedes engineers in Brackley are constantly working to remedy the situation. The first major changes to the W13 car can be seen at round five of the season in Miami. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell’s cars get new front and rear wings. The front got different flaps and the shape of the back changed from wavy to straight.

The team is working on weight loss, among other things. According to rumors, Imola has managed to shed about 5 kg, a slight improvement is expected in Miami. During Friday’s practice, Mercedes will, among other things, conduct several experiments that will allow us to evaluate the correlation of the data obtained as a result of calculations on the base and on the real track. The team did not specify what kind of experiments, but Toto Wolff is optimistic.

“We learned a lot in Imola last weekend and gathered information while working in the wind tunnel and on the simulator,” says Toto. “The team has found several ways to improve the car.”
