Experienced Ferrari engineer and Charles Leclerc coach Jock Klia acknowledged that even Scuderia’s leading experts do not fully understand the reasons for the change in the car’s competitiveness over the season. In the Spa the Ferrari was way behind and with similar settings in Monza it looked much better.
Jock Klia: “Unfortunately, solving such problems is not easy. If we knew the answer, we would undoubtedly have achieved more.
Some teams get better results in individual races, others relapse, but no one knows why this is happening. We have a difficult task, such changes in competitiveness intrigue not only the press, but also ourselves.
We still don’t understand why we weren’t fast enough in Spa. We had some ideas, we took them into the work with the car in Monza, where little downforce is also needed. Perhaps this experience has helped. We are constantly learning, besides in our sport everything is relative – our results are determined by the competitiveness of rivals and we do not know what they are working on. The next races will bring new knowledge.
The main reason is that these machines are brand new. The new regulation always poses many questions that you need to find answers to. Now many people ask why our car was so fast at the start of the season, but in our sport everything is relative. Now we understand this car better and the drivers have learned how to drive it effectively. All this takes different times for different teams.”
