Russian runner Nikita Mazepin said he was not going to refuse to participate in international competitions in a neutral status.
– I would like to clarify one point – some agencies wrote that I said that I refused to act under a neutral flag. It’s not true. I said that I was not going to change my nationality to be able to compete. I keep my intention to play in a neutral status and de facto did it last Formula 1 season without any problems,” Mazepin wrote on the social network.
Earlier, in a chat with , Mazepin said he favored the choice of runners who decided to change or leave sport citizenship.
Mazepin made his Formula 1 debut in the 2021 season for the Haas team. He was listed as an athlete representing the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) due to restrictions imposed under the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision. The best result for a Russian is a 14th place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
