Lance Stroll is often criticized for being in Formula 1 thanks to his father’s money, although he is far from the first and not the last on this basis. Lawrence Stroll owns the team Lance plays for, so the 23-year-old Canadian has no problem continuing his career.
This criticism does not always seem justified – Lance won the championship title in Formula 4, the New Zealand winter series and Formula 3, after achieving good results in Formula 1. Aston Martin team principal Mike Krak considers Lance one of the most underrated racers, though critics will say Lawrence gets a paycheck for this.
Mike Krak: “A lot of people think Lance is only here because his father owns the team. But we don’t have a very strong team and he looks great against his partner, a four-time world champion. And so many titles in the youth series are not easy to win.
It’s important to remember that Lance never had a race-winning car that he could drive to show his true potential.
When Sebastian Vettel came to our team, everyone said Lance didn’t stand a chance against him. But their results this year are very close. Alonso will be Stroll’s team-mate next season and I have no doubt Lance will be able to surprise many again.”
