Last year Max Verstappen fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming world champion, but this did not affect his mood in the least and he assures that his desire for victories and titles has not diminished.
“Being world champion has nothing to do with my confidence. I don’t care anymore. I just go back to the beginning and plan to fight for new victories, – said Max. – I have already said that if I win the title, my goal in Formula 1 will be achieved. Everything else is a bonus and just gives me pleasure.
But this doesn’t mean that if I win the championship, you can have fun, relax and all that. I think my motivation is even higher now as I try to repeat my achievement.
The racer is always trying to get better, learning every year. I want to say that this is a natural desire, especially now that we have new cars, to which we must at least adapt. So in a way it was great to win the title on the old car, and now the technical rules have changed and we have a completely new car. She is very competitive again and that contributes to the right mood. If you have a good car, motivation is also at the top.
I like to fight with Charles Leclerc on track, I like it when the race goes well and everyone has fun. I think we’re making rapid progress with the RB18, so it’s an even battle, and the outcome depends on who makes the technical stuff faster and who does it more efficiently. I think the teams are offering all kinds of new solutions for each race.
When we talk about the circuit in Miami, it’s new for everyone, although everyone has already been able to get acquainted with it on the simulator. If the car does well with the balance, it will help you learn the track faster, but if something goes wrong, you will have two kinds of difficulties: it will be harder for you to learn the track, and at the same time it will take you going to fight with the car.
I’m really enjoying it here, it seems very interesting to drive on this track, although it will be physically demanding due to the heat and humidity, so we have a difficult race ahead of us.
