Not happy with calendar publication in Formula 1

This week, the FIA ​​released the calendar for the 2023 season, surprising Formula 1 management and teams. The Guardian sources say the move took Liberty Media’s teams and management by surprise, with a team spokesperson calling the FIA’s move “unacceptable”.

The publication of the new calendar was expected on Friday, but immediately after the World Council meeting, the FIA ​​press office published the calendar without prior notice to Formula 1 management. in the US, Mexico City and Brazil had to be approved by the teams. It was supposed to be received, but the teams were outraged that the FIA ​​did not consult with them.

The release of the calendar also came as a surprise to Formula 1 management. Liberty Media planned to separately announce the contract extension with the Monaco Grand Prix and confirm the date of the race in Las Vegas. , but instead they had to rush to issue short press releases after the calendar was published.

Following the Italian Grand Prix, the FIA ​​and President Mohammed bin Sulayem were heavily criticized for the slow formation of the starting grid after qualifying and for finishing the race behind the safety car. The FIA ​​assures they maintain a good working relationship with the teams, but the already tense atmosphere has only escalated.
