Lando Norris agrees with those who think the problem with the new track in Miami is that there is only one racetrack on it, and having the car out there could lead to hard contact with the bumpstop.
Lando Norris (6th): “Flying is very difficult. In some areas the track is very uneven which we didn’t expect – I think everyone thought it would be nice and very smooth but it’s not.
The asphalt is also difficult – as soon as you stray from the path, you immediately lose control of the car and everything can end in an accident. The track forgives no mistakes at all: wherever you go off the main track, it’s terribly slippery everywhere. I hope the organizers will try to do something about this to somehow improve the situation.
I don’t know exactly what can be done about it. I think if you clean the surface of the asphalt it should help. For example, at the end of the first practice, the edges of the track were littered with fragments of used rubber, and if you were there, that’s it, the game is over.
The same thing happened in the second workout. It was better at the start of the session, but as soon as a layer of used rubber appeared on the track, everything off track became just awful again.
It seems to me that this will not contribute to an interesting fight as you have to stick to the only race track. This limits the freedom of movement, but speaking of the positive aspects, the track itself is still interesting and difficult, it’s fun to pilot here. And our day turned out to be generally normal.”
