Alpine experimented with race settings

Alpine riders Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon finished their second practice session in Miami in the top ten with a fifth and ninth time respectively. The team said it experimented with race settings on Friday, in an effort to increase the car’s competitiveness on a long series of circles.

Fernando Alonso (5th): “A good day for us. We learned the track and after working on the simulator we started on a real track. Of course, differences between the virtual model and the real model are inevitable, so it was important to quickly sort everything out during Friday practice.

It’s interesting to drive on the track and I think we had a clean Friday. There is a lot of information to analyze – everything will be added on Saturday. We have yet to tweak the settings, but we’re looking fast this weekend and in good shape. I am optimistic.”

Esteban Ocon (9th): “After waiting so long for the weekend and all the hype around it, it’s great to get to the track and evaluate it in real life. A good day, in which we learned a new track for everyone. The team got its first introduction to the simulator, but with new data we can confirm some assumptions and discuss new questions.

The car looks competitive, we are moving in the right direction, which is great. However, Saturday’s results are still more important than Friday’s. The most important work is yet to come.

Alan PermainSports Director: “It’s great to come to Miami and feel the atmosphere that Formula 1 creates in the city. The organizers have done a great job building an interesting track and creating a fantastic infrastructure.

When it comes to speed, we did two training sessions with confidence, even though we had to interrupt the work due to red flags. The team has focused on improving the race pace, so today we experimented with the settings. Both riders completed their second practice in the top ten, Fernando is generally fifth, indicating good pace on a fast lap.

It is difficult to judge the alignment of forces on a long series of circles because red flags have interrupted work, so there is something to work on. Anyway, have a great day and we look forward to continuing into the weekend.”
