Bottas prepares for the Singapore Grand Prix over the Arctic Circle

Formula 1 drivers are preparing in various ways for the upcoming round in Singapore, which is back on the World Cup calendar this year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

The Singapore Grand Prix is considered one of the toughest in terms of physical exertion, and it is not only that the riders have to overcome 61 laps on a 5.063 km circuit, which has almost no long straights, but there are 23 corners, the most of which 90 degrees. The climate in these parts is very hot and humid, greatly complicating the task for teams and riders over the weekend in this southeastern island city-state.

It seems that in order to withstand all these loads, it is necessary to train in conditions similar to those in which one has to work in Singapore. Most do, but not all. In any case, Valtteri Bottas is in no rush to move to warmer countries, but on the contrary, he moved to the far north of Finland, beyond the Arctic Circle, where he has a home in the Lapland town of Kilpisjärvi.

It is not hot in Lapland now, the daytime temperatures do not rise above 5 degrees, which is generally experienced as plus 1. But the Finnish Alfa Romeo racer and his Australian girlfriend Tiffany Cromwell are not at all ashamed of that and are spending this weekend right there, beyond latitude 69th latitude, where they cycle, as always.

They shared a series of beautiful photos that make you feel that despite the harshness of these places, it is beautiful in its own way.

“In Finnish this season is called Ruska,” Valtteri writes. “When nature gets all the nutrients from the leaves and prepares to survive the harsh Arctic winter.”

“We fled to the Arctic for a weekend where we ride gravel paths between landscapes painted in beautiful fall colors,” Tiffany added.
