On Friday in Miami, the Mercedes cars looked better than usual – the team brought a lot of new products and George Russell set the fastest time, and Lewis Hamilton finished the day in fourth …
George Russell (1st): “We don’t really understand why Friday was fast in the first place. No, we assumed before the weekend that the conditions in Miami would be more suitable for our car, because we had problems warming up the car before. tires, but it’s really hot here, this played its part, the car worked well, but let’s not overestimate Friday’s results.
The car’s swing on the straights remained, but here we managed to lower the suspension height compared to the settings we were using before. However, during a series of circles with a lot of fuel build-up, it was still going strong.
On some tracks the car behaves better, on others – worse. The Imola didn’t fit our car, but in Miami, as we see now, the car works better.”
Lewis Hamilton (4th): “Engineers think we’ve definitely added to it, looks like we’re really going faster here, but I’m not sure. The car still suffers from swaying on straight lines, it was not possible to completely eliminate this problem, but otherwise we are making progress.
It seemed to me that in our day it shouldn’t be very difficult to build a flat road, but the track in Miami turned out to be very bumpy. Huge bumps in different places where different layers of asphalt are connected. I don’t know if they can brush them at night and improve something for Saturday. Other than that, I liked the track, except for the chicane.
It’s so crowded there that I remember when I was five or six years old going karting in a supermarket parking lot. I hope this chicane will be removed in the future – the track will be better without it.
