Mick Schumacher has not yet raced on the urban circuit of Marina Bay, but the young German is ready to make his debut. Before the start of the weekend in Singapore, the Haas rider spoke about the team’s chances this weekend.
Q: What do you know about the track in Singapore?
Mick Schumacher: Singapore has a special track, so I’m looking forward to coming. I’ve only been to Singapore once, and then only at the airport for a transfer, but even the airport impressed me!
I want to explore the track personally. Many call the race difficult due to the high humidity, but this is one of the hallmarks of the stage. Let’s see what we can do.
Q: Since its debut in 2008, every race has had a safety car on the track. How do you take this factor into account when preparing?
Mick Schumacher: Before each stage, we hold briefings in which we discuss important factors, such as the safety car. It really has to do with strategy and preparation, but then again, as I’ve never performed here before, I have a fresh perspective. I will try to do as many laps as possible, understand the track, perform well in qualifying, start clean and compete for points.
Q: Do you change anything in your standard race preparation program before coming to Singapore?
Mick Schumacher: It’s hard for me to judge what kind of preparation is best for me as I haven’t raced on this track, but usually the preparation for different stages isn’t much different, even if we’re talking about such a specific Grand Prix as in Singapore.
Q: Does working night shifts in Singapore affect you in any way?
Mick Schumacher: I think I can easily adapt to this because I don’t have a fixed schedule – for example, I eat when I’m hungry. So it’s easy for me!
