Max Verstappen missed his second training session in Miami. In the first half of the session the mechanics changed his car’s gearbox and on the lap out of the pits Verstappen’s hydraulics failed and the right rear brake caught fire. Max entered the pit lane and never returned to the track.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner said the team’s engineers had identified a problem the day before that prevented the reigning world champion: “Max had a terrible day yesterday, but we understand what led to those problems.
In the third practice he will do more laps, because on urban circuits the rider needs time to get used to it. We know very well how Max can adapt to new tracks, so he will quickly make up for lost time.”
The protocol of the second training was under the direction of George Russell. About Mercedes’ speed in Miami, Horner said: “I said before the start of the season that it was only a matter of time before they solved their problems. Looks like they’re starting to get it right.
I think they suit the characteristics of the job. In any case, they are already on their way to solving problems, so they look competitive.”
