Jimmie Johnson, one of America’s most awarded drivers, has announced his retirement from motorsport. He has competed in the NASCAR series since 2002, winning seven championships in his time and spending the last two seasons in IndyCar, but now the 47-year-old Californian has decided it’s time to retire.
“I have made the decision that in 2023 I will no longer spend all my time racing,” Johnson said. – I had to make a difficult choice, but deep down I know that this is the right decision. I’m not exactly sure what to expect in the next phase, but if there’s an option that seems reasonable to me, I’ll be willing to consider it. I still have a whole list of races I would like to participate in.”
Probably this list includes the Race of Champions – last winter Jimmie Johnson took part in these prestigious competitions and even beat Mika Hakkinen in a direct duel on the rink, and with a big advantage.
It is plausible that Johnson can still enter the Indy 500, but he has also never competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, although he has been thinking about it for a long time.
Overall, we will most likely hear more about him.
