Pirelli is waiting for two pit stops (but this is not certain)

It is difficult to judge the optimal strategy for the race in Miami. The teams have no information about the work of the tires in previous years and this weekend it was not possible to run long series due to red flags shutting down sessions.

Pirelli thinks the race will most likely have two pit stops, but that all depends on the tire wear on Sunday. One of the factors in the choice of strategy can be the very likely exit of the safety car.

Mario IsolaPirelli: “Qualifying was interesting, the teams used a method to restore the grip of the tires without losing their effectiveness, alternating fast and slow laps.

This was particularly noticeable in Ferrari’s strategy – in the early part of qualifying, Charles Leclerc put in three sets of laps on one set and Carlos Sainz – four. They then had three runs in the second session and two in the final – in the hottest conditions this season.

The optimal race strategy is not easy to determine, but it seems that two tire changes will allow the riders to cover the distance the fastest – all three compositions can play an important role.
