Formula E: Hankook new electric series partner

Korean tire company Hankook has become Formula E’s new exclusive technical partner and supplier, replacing Michelin, with whom the electric series has been collaborating for years.

An official presentation was held today in Austria, in the center of Swarovski Kristallwelten, located in the town of Wattens, presenting Hankook iON racing tires designed for Formula E.

The new tire was developed in close collaboration with the EV Racing World Championship and it was important not only to achieve high performance, but also to take into account special requirements for environmental friendliness. That is why iON tires are made from 30% materials derived from renewable raw materials.

Formula E uses all-round tires suitable for both dry and rainy weather, which also provides significant resource savings. Hankook will be 100% recyclable after each race weekend and this is also a commitment to the environment.

Soul LeePresident and CEO of Hankook Tire & Technology: “Three years ago we decided that in 2023 we would become the official technical partner and supplier of Formula E, which can be considered the most progressive, modern and environmentally friendly racing series in the world.

The philosophy behind the Hankook brand and our strategic ambitions are aimed at further enhancing environmental awareness, which also reflects the spirit of Formula 1. Together we will have a significant impact on the development of motorsport in the coming years.”

Jamie Reigl, Executive Director of Formula E: “We are very pleased to welcome Hankook to our World Championship. We are proud to partner with a company recognized as one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, bringing motorsport to life and breathing as a fundamental aspect of its corporate identity.

Hankook has a lot of experience working with race teams on circuits around the world, they develop advanced technologies and are committed to preserving the environment, so they are a perfect fit for our championship and our third generation cars.”
