Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda reached the Miami Grand Prix Qualifying Final, AlphaTauri’s best result of the season. The team expects to consolidate success in the race and score points with two cars.
Pierre Gasly (7th): “I’m very happy because this is our best qualifying of the season. It’s great that we got such a result in Miami. In the morning I wasn’t happy with the car so we weren’t sure about qualifying chances, but I put in a lap when it really mattered and set the seventh fastest time.
The battle in the middle group is very tight – a few tenths are involved, but I have a good starting position, which is very important on this track. Since we haven’t raced in Miami before, we have a lot of unknowns waiting for us. We don’t have much information about tire degradation and we don’t know if there will be any overtaking opportunities. But I think it’s going to be a fun race.”
Yuki Tsunoda (9th): “I am satisfied with my performance in qualifying. We had set ourselves the goal of reaching the final, but in practice it turned out to be difficult. I had problems from the very start of the weekend, but in qualifying I managed to bounce back and get the most out of the car.
The main events are on Sunday, and I’m looking forward to it. Very warm weather is expected, which may complicate the task, but we are ready to attack in the race. The goal is to score points with two cars.”
