The organizers of the Singapore Grand Prix have announced several environmental initiatives over the course of the upcoming leg.
In particular, the pits and pit lane will be powered entirely by carbon neutral energy sources, while the main stand and entertainment area behind it will be powered by the purchase of renewable energy certificates.
On the other side of the track, in zone 4, 48% of the sector will be powered by B7 biodiesel generators, 7% of which will come from plant or animal sources. In collaboration with Alpha Biofuels, the intention is to try out a generator on B100, which is completely composed of biofuels, over the weekend. Over the weekend, Alpha Biofuels employees will collect food scraps from restaurants around the track for processing into biofuels.
Used kitchen utensils and food waste are collected and sent to an off-site TRIA hypercomposter for processing into manure suitable for use on farms.
By July 2023, solar panels will be placed on the roof of the pit lane and all lighting on the track will be replaced with LEDs.
