Alpine team technical director Pat Fry spoke about the car updates being prepared by the engineers for the Singapore Grand Prix.
Q: What does the team expect from a return to the Marina Bay track?
Pat Fry: It’s great to be back in Singapore for the first time since 2019. From the moment it appears on the calendar, this is a great stage and the track characteristics guarantee an exciting fight in qualifying and the race.
In general, there are many bumps, slow and medium turns on the city track, which require wings with maximum downforce. Finding the optimal settings for the car to be fast in such conditions is not an easy task.
I think the bumps will be one of the main talking points this weekend – let’s see how different teams are handling them. Plus, don’t forget about the heat and humidity in Singapore – we have many unique challenges to tackle this weekend.
Q: What novelties will the team bring to Singapore and to the next stages?
Pat Fry: This weekend both our cars will be fitted with a new underbody which we plan to use in the next phase in Japan. Visually, the car will not differ much from the one in the previous stage, since most of the new products are hidden. However, the updates should help make a nice step forward in terms of speed.
The novelties we put on the car in previous races worked as expected. We will have a few more updates, but after the Austin round at the end of October we will further refine the current car. Everyone at the Enstone base has worked hard to achieve our goals, so thank you everyone for their efforts.
Q: How would you rate the battle for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship?
Pat Fry: This year the battle is very tight, which makes the race more interesting. The only thing we can do is stick to the development plan and not deviate from the plan. It is necessary to maintain maximum reliability until the end of the season, to reach the qualifying final with two cars and to earn points in every race with two cars – the team knows we can do it.
Now we are focused on the Singapore Grand Prix – we will try to have a clean weekend at this unique track.
