A few days ago, the FIA World Council approved the decision to increase the number of sprint races to six in 2023. Not everyone liked this decision, including Sebastian Vettel. In Singapore, the Aston Martin driver said the increase in sprint stages is due to Formula 1 owners’ desire to make extra profits.
Sebastian Vettel: “Sprint is not the most exciting session from the rider’s point of view. Even during the sprint you think about the main race of the weekend, you think about your starting position, how not to deteriorate it. Of course you can earn a few points in the sprint, but we still pay the most attention to the race on Sunday.
I don’t want to sound like a bad guy just to be seen as such, but I think more sprint racing is just a way to make more money.
The sprint probably attracts more spectators than the free practice. I don’t have the full information and all the numbers, but that’s what we were told some time ago.”
