The International Federation decided to disqualify the national teams of the aggressor countries from competitions at all ages.

Russia is out of the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship, now it’s official. Following the results of the congress, the International Federation upheld the decision to remove the national teams of the aggressor countries at all ages from participating in international tournaments.

The same decision was made in relation to the accomplice of the terrorist country – Belarus.

This means that the 2023 World Championships in all divisions and all ages are definitely missed by these two teams.

At the same time, the IIHF hopes that the leadership of these countries will finally come to an understanding, end the war and liberate all occupied territories. After that, the national teams of Russia and Belarus will be returned to international hockey.

And the national teams promise to immediately enter the elite division – where they are before the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“Actually, this decision does not mean the return of the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the IIHF competitions. Congress needs to make a decision so that the members of the IIHF understand the conditions for the reunification of these countries in the future.

The IIHF Council will continue to monitor the war in Ukraine,” said IIHF President Luc Tardif.

It will be recalled that earlier it became known that Canada called on its hockey players to leave Russia and Belarus.
