“Above all, don’t shoot yourself in the foot. Dmitry Orlov – about the game “Washington”

Nichushkin scored a touchdown

If we talk about the events of the NHL game day, the Colorado forward again delighted Valery Nichushkin. In the game against Vegas (3:2), he took the puck to his door and, like old times (we saw these things in the KHL), dragged it to strangers, scoring a magnificent goal.

And we asked him about it in a recent interview with .

– Since childhood, you had a corporate identity – you broke down the door. Do you still like scoring touchdowns as you get older?

— I’m still trying to reach the door. I won’t say it’s proprietary. But I play according to what the defenders let me do. As a child, I scored many other goals. But when he later started playing in Traktor and in the youth team, he always played in the third or fourth ties. And there is a slightly different hockey.

By the way, the list of top scorers in the NHL now looks like this: 11 points (6+5) – Valery Nichushkin, 11 (3+8) – Artemy Panarin, 10 (5+5) – Connor McDavid.

And the list of the best snipers in the NHL looks like this: 7 – Stephen Stamkos, 6 each – Valery Nichushkin, Andrey Svechnikov, Alex Tak.

Do you remember how they made fun of Nichushkin recently that he can’t score more than 100 games in a row and everything gets away from him? His story is like that of the “ugly duckling” who turned into a beautiful white swan.

Ovechkin went into the shadows, becoming a security official

“Washington” this season does not shine so far, but the home game against “Los Angeles” turned out to be quite good. Certainly after two periods the guests of California led 2-0, but in the third, the Capitals players gained momentum by scoring four goals (4-3).

Interestingly, Alexander Ovechkin did not score a single point, remaining with a utility of “-2”, but at the same time he made three shots on target and performed six powerful moves. But the game’s second star was defender Dmitry Orlov, who provided three assists.

“We didn’t feel like that 0-2 couldn’t be won back, so we just kept doing our job,” said head coach Peter Laviolette. – The most important thing is to throw more goals into the goal than the opponent. To do that, you have to create more chances, whether it’s the first or second, third chance to finish.

By the way, for the second time in three games, the Capitals won, dropping two goals in the third period. They were already down 2-4 at home on Monday before beating Vancouver 6-4.

“We said to ourselves: ‘We have already done it once this year and we can do it again’, declared Markus Johansson, author of the winning goal. – We had chances to touch their goal, and there are a lot of guys on our team who can score.

Incidentally, forward Evgeny Kuznetsov returned to Washington, who served a one-game suspension after hitting Canucks defenseman Kyle Burroughs with a stick. Kuzya had 18:17 minutes on the ice and scored an assist.

Dmitry Orlov: ‘The team is your second family’

After the game Dmitry Orlov gave an interview to our correspondent in Washington Ilya Sviridyuk.

– What are your impressions of the match against Los Angeles (4:3), in which you made three assists? This happened to you for the second time in your career.

– All is well. The main thing is victory. Now it is very important for us. Also, we missed the last game with Ottawa (2:5). They were leading 2-0, but then the opponent completely dominated us. So we wanted to play better today.

We were down 0-2 after two periods, but in the third we pulled together and played well. We must therefore continue in the same spirit. Yes, three speeds is good. Guys – congratulations on the score. Helped me score those points. This is the most important thing that we begin to score.

It doesn’t always work out, it’s now the start of the season – everyone still has a lot of strength. No one is physically dependent. It is therefore important to score points at the start of the championship. Gain confidence and go strong all season long.

– During the game, head coach Peter Laviolette changed the tie combination. Did it help in any way?

– Well, yes, the coaches look at who is playing, who is not playing. They try to redraw the links. Some things sometimes work, others don’t always. But today it worked out well. And we have to prepare for the next game. In principle, we have a pretty tough schedule ahead of us for three weeks – matches are held every other day.

We have an age group, all experienced. Somehow we will be given less training. But it is still necessary to keep this rhythm, to gain in confidence. It’s good that we picked up the game several times. But it is better not to talk about it when you are below the score.

We believe in ourselves, keep playing and scoring points. But you still have to show strong hockey every 60 minutes. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot by complicating things.

– The coach specifically suggested something to you in the third period. Changed tactics?

– He said we play well, we do everything well. You just have to keep attacking in the same spirit, climb more on the door, throw and finish. Somewhere more aggressiveness, pucks on offense. In general, playing attack is always easier than staying defensive. We used exactly this principle – and achieved victory.

– Washington is the second oldest in the league, after Pittsburgh. Does that help the Capitals?

– I think so. We have enough experience. Whether we are old or not, we are still professionals. Everyone knows how to prepare for games. Yeah, maybe you’re not going somewhere in a game. But you always give your best, keep doing it until you force yourself to play.

In a league like the NHL, you can’t give up. Because the competition is very high and you want to enter the playoffs. Every year it gets harder and we have a very strong division. It shows the past years. So we can’t lose points. We have to win, especially at home.

On the road we look pretty good, but in recent years we haven’t been doing very well at home. We don’t know what it is related to. But we always try to please our fans. Because they come to the arena for good emotions. They worry about us – and we should give them joy.

– Washington has lost after two periods in the last two home games. Moreover, these were Western Conference clubs – Vancouver, Los Angeles. But in the third period, the Capitals broke the game. It’s like you’re getting used to the style of westerns?

– It’s hard to draw such conclusions, you don’t have to match for a match. Different games, different opponents. Moreover, Vancouver was also in a precarious situation. They constantly lost, even though they were in the lead. And we noticed that too. Maybe some kind of psychological problem or bad luck?

A lot of little things play their part in team hockey. Here’s something that worked. The main thing is not to lose self-confidence, to continue working. And you can’t break when the game is wrong. You will only make things worse for the atmosphere within the team.

We need to be more friendly, because the team is your second family. Sometimes you even spend more time as a team than as a family.. So we have to be close in the locker room. And that will make us better as a team.
