“What kind of hockey can be without Russia? There are only a dozen countries in the world that play this sport. The Russian team is the world leader. The World Cup without the Russian team is a sort of “non-hockey,” Tarasova mentioned.
The 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship kicked off on May 13 in the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere. The national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from participation in the world championship due to Russia’s military rescue operation on the territory of Ukraine, which began on February 24. The places of the Russian and Belarusian teams were taken by the national teams of Austria and France. The World Cup final will take place on May 29.
