Severstal head coach Andrei Razin speaking about the victory over Sochi, he jokingly asked the ice pourers of the Cherepovets Arena to make special holes through which the puck would fly into the goal.
On Friday, Severstal beat Sochi in the home game of the Fonbet KHL Championship in a postgame shootout series – 5:4. Before the third period, the Cherepovites lost 1:3, but managed to score three goals in the end and even took the lead in the 59th minute, after which the Sochi team managed to bounce back. As a result, the winner was determined by a series of shootouts, where striker Ruslan Abrosimov scored with the only accurate throw.
– In this match, we had an overwhelming advantage and a good part of the majority. I think we were able to organize a party for Cherepovets fans on City Day. Everything was – return, overtime, shootouts … We ran over the opponent, jumped over and transferred. In the third period, we had ten minutes more possession of the puck in the opponent’s zone than in the opponent’s. But for me personally, it was a very difficult match. It is necessary for our ice pourers to make special holes and the puck flies through them into the goal,” Razin said.
Thanks to this victory Severstal broke a 6-game losing streak. Sochi lost in the 11th consecutive meeting.
