National Hockey League clubBoston Bruins » on its official website announcement regarding the termination of the contract with defender Mitchell Miller.
On November 4, the American Club signed 20-year-old Miller to a rookie contract but was forced to part ways with a hockey player who, aged 14, was convicted of assault and bullying of a black classmate with an intellectual disability.
In 2020, due to this outrageous incident, the Arizona Coyotes denied the rights to Miller, who selected the defenseman in the 2020 NHL Draft with the 111th overall number.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, after signing a contract between Boston and Miller, said that the hockey player does not have the right to play in the league.
“What Miller did at the age of 14 is reprehensible and unacceptable. The Bruins did not consult us before signing the contract. I already spoke with Cam Neely (president of the club – editor’s note) after his signing. I can’t tell you he’ll ever make it to the NHL.
Boston could sign him to play elsewhere, that’s another league. But no one should think he currently has or may ever have the right to play in the NHL. And in ‘Boston’ they understand that now,” Battman quotes the official NHL website.
