“Chibrikov and Svechkov need more confidence in Spartak” – head coach of the Russian junior hockey team

Head coach of the Russian national junior ice hockey team (under 20) Vladimir Filatov believes that the leaders of the national team Fyodor Svechkov and Nikita Chibrikov should receive more playing time for Spartak Moscow in the Fonbet KHL Championship.

In July, the hockey players moved to the Moscow club from SKA St. Petersburg in a trade.

– What happens to young players Nikita Chibrikov, Fedor Svechkov in the Spartak system? They were exchanged from the SKA system for Alexander Nikishin. Are they growing properly?

– It’s hard for me to say how the Spartak system works. I don’t really know her, to be honest. And judging from the outside, I think these guys deserve more. It’s my point of view. And that’s subjective,” Filatov told reporters.

– Could they play well in the KHL?

– Yes. I’m sure they would have played better at Spartak if they had more confidence.

– They played a lot in the VHL.

– That’s great too. The guys perform between adults, and not badly. I saw some of their Khimik matches. I’m not saying they are misused. It’s about the trust that would be given to the guys. It would be an incentive for them to prove themselves.

– Last season, the same was said about Vasily Ponomarev. He played little at Spartak, then left for the AHL (American Hockey League) and won the Calder Cup.

– I agree with you that if a player is selected in the first round of the NHL draft, then he should play in the KHL, and more attention should be given to him. Why this happens in Spartak – I don’t know their cuisine. Apparently there are some reasons for this.

During the current season, Chibrikov played 16 games for Spartak in the regular season, he scored with one assist. On average, a 19-year-old hockey player received just over six minutes of playing time per game. In the VHL, he scored 4 points (2 goals + 2 assists) in eight games.

Svechkov played 11 games for Spartak, did not score points, averaged almost 8 minutes on the ice. In the VHL, the hockey player got 5 points (1 + 4) in 11 games.
