Rotenberg advised Michkov to follow the example of Kaprizov and Panarin

SKA Head Coach Romain Rotenberg talks about the future of the 17-year-old SKA striker Matvey Michkov I remembered how Russian NHL stars improved their skills Kirill Kaprizov and Artemi Panarin .

On Saturday, SKA lost to Sibir in the away match of the KHL Championship Fonbet (2:3). The Army team suffered three straight defeats while touring Siberia and the Far East.

“Great fighting game, strong opponent,” Rotenberg told reporters. – For us, it was the best game on the Siberia and Far East tour – in terms of content, dedication and character. But the freshness was not enough to convert all their chances into goals. The opponent acted very selflessly in defense. SKA has reservations, there are guys coming back to the group. We worked on many details against a backdrop of fatigue. Now the trips are going differently than a year ago, due to a tighter schedule. Let’s take the most useful things from this journey and become even stronger. We will show our game in St. Petersburg.

– What vulnerabilities did this series reveal for SKA?

– Against the background of fatigue, you need to play more easily and clearly according to the instructions. It’s a lesson for everyone, we’ll all get through it together. On this trip we had both theory and practice. We will improve everything. We are now back in pre-season. Many details can be improved. Each defeat is a step forward. We have to work more with our feet so that the opponent gets away more often. Today we only played once in the majority.

– It was expected that Matvey Michkov would appear much more often in SKA before the draft.

– Appearance in the composition does not depend on a well-known surname or some kind of draft. We bounce back on our game. If a hockey player needs SKA right now, he gets a spot on the team. The rules are the same for everyone. There are no untouchables in the SKA. We have different guys playing and everyone is progressing. We work a lot with Matvey, we think about how to improve his game. The transition from youth hockey to adult hockey is a difficult stage. For example, Kirill Kaprizov, when he was Michkov’s age, instead of taking vacations, he trained and worked on himself. The same Artemy Panarin. That’s why these guys have reached such a high level. This is called winning the fight with yourself.

Michkov has appeared in three SKA matches this season, but hasn’t scored. Scouts consider Matvey one of the main favorites for the future NHL Draft.
