Participating in the Super Series-1972, the two-time world champion Martynyuk died at the age of 77

Former striker of the USSR and Moscow national hockey team “Spartacus Oleksandr Martynyuk died at the age of 77 after a long illness, the Red-White press service reports.

“Eternal memory to legendary Spartak and USSR national team striker Alexander Akimovich Martynyuk,” the club said in a statement.

Martyniuk took part in the 1972 Super Series against Team Canada. He also has two victories at the World Championships, he has become the USSR champion three times. In 1973, Martynyuk set a national record by scoring eight goals against the German national team (18:2) in a World Cup match. In total, Martynyuk played 410 games in the USSR championships, scoring 212 goals, 197 of them as part of Spartak.
