“Ovechkin created a sport like hockey in Washington” – Semin

Former strikerWashington » Alexandre Semin in an interview with noted the role Alexandra Ovechkina in promoting hockey in the American capital.

Ovechkin has been with the Capitals since 2005. He is currently the league’s all-time leader in goals scored for a single team and is third on the NHL’s regular season goalscoring list with 788, behind only Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).

– You yourself understand what Ovechkin did for Washington and for hockey in the city in general. When we arrived at the club, it was devastation in a hockey sense. The team hasn’t played as well as it has in the last 10-15 years.

Sanya created such a sport in Washington as hockey. Attendance was 10-11,000 (spectators), and since Sanya started playing, every match is sold out. He’s not alone, of course, because hockey is a team game. But he makes sure hockey is loved in this town. It attracts spectators to the arena, breaks records, every second match is historic, that’s why there is such hype, Semin told .

Semin, together with Ovechkin, played in the NHL for Washington, he also defended the colors of Carolina and Montreal, and in the KHL – Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Vityaz near Moscow. As a member of the Russian national team, Semin became a double world champion (2008, 2012). He now works as chairman of Krasnoyarsk Sokol.
