Martyniuk died at the age of 78 after a long illness.

Martynyuk made a great contribution to Soviet hockey. He forever went down in history not only because of his records, but also stood out for his unique game.

Martyniuk took part in the 1972 Super Series against Team Canada. Thanks to his two victories at the world championships, he became three times champion of the USSR. In 1973, Martynyuk scored eight goals against the German national team (18:2) in the World Championship, setting a record for most goals in an international match.
