Islanders goaltender Sorokin is the NHL’s first star of the day

Russian goalkeeper New York Islanders Ilya Sorokin recognized as the first star of the day in the National Hockey League, informs the official website of the NHL.

In a regular season game against the Edmonton Oilers (3-0), he saved 49 shots, registering his second shutout of the season and the 12th of his career. Earlier in the NHL, the Russian didn’t think so many shots in a single game.

The second star of the day was San Jose Sharks forward Timo Mayer, who scored his fourth career hat trick in a 5-8 game against the Seattle Cracken.

The third star was Arizona Coyotes goaltender Karel Veimelka, who kept a clean sheet against the Carolina Hurricanes 4-0 with 36 saves.
