IIHF reprimanded the Russian Ice Hockey Federation for propaganda of war in Ukraine

Fans in the arenas showed signs and posters with a political context

Disciplinary Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) reprimanded the Russian Ice Hockey Federation for violating the Code of Ethics due to support and war propaganda in Ukraine.

The FHR was punished due to the fact that fans in the arenas showed signs and posters with a political context. In addition, the clubs published photos with similar posters on social networks. The IIHF notes that the relevant publications were indeed propaganda for the war in Ukraine, which is a violation of Article 2.2.1 of the Code of Ethics.

It is noted that the FHR did not monitor the behavior of the teams and leagues that are under its jurisdiction, and did not take any action to stop the violations.

In October, the IIHF upheld the indefinite ban of the national teams of Russia and Belarus to participate in all international competitions. The IIHF Congress has clarified that the ban applies to tournaments in 2023 for all age categories.

Early on the morning of February 24, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine continues for the 275th day.
