Weissfeld: ‘I think the level of the KHL and the quality of national hockey will drop after the limit is reduced’

Hockey official and expert Leonid Weisfeld expressed the opinion that the level of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) will fall after the reduction of the limit of foreign players.

Previously, the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) proposed to reduce the limit of Legionnaires in the KHL to three players. Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin backed the initiative and said the limit would be reduced in 2023. Now league clubs can apply for the five foreign match.

– I think the level of the league and the level of national hockey will go down. It doesn’t matter who is against the limit and who is for it. Someone made a decision, so now there will be three legionnaires in the app. You can be for, you can be against. But since they said three, then there will be three.

Maybe it will benefit someone, but the quality of hockey will certainly fall. There’s not even much to say,” Weisfeld told .
