The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) has abandoned the idea of registering a team of young Russian stars (Russia 25) for a friendly tournament of hockey teams in Moscow, the RHF official said. Vladislav Tretiak.
The tournament will take place from December 15 to 18. It will also include an international tournament in 3v3 format with the participation of the national teams of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and China.
— This year, the tournament will be a jubilee, the 55th in history. We are now forced to abandon the idea of fielding another young team from Rossiya 25. The busy schedule of National Championship games, the KHL All-Star Game, all of this has been superimposed on the virus outbreak in many teams – it would be very difficult to gather players for two teams. At the same time, some of the U-25 guys will play for the national team,” Tretiak told FHR’s official website.
Tretyak stressed that the federation is not abandoning the Russia 25 project, “fans will see the star team in May”.
In August, the Russian U25 team played its first matches, which took place as part of the Sochi Hockey Open.
The Russian national team has been suspended from participating in the Euro Hockey Tour due to the political situation.
