Two days ago, Omsk “Vanguard” lost at home to Ufa “Salavat Yulaev”, and today the “Hawks” will meet another top Eastern Conference club, which is currently not in the best ranking. Not so long ago, Kazan “Ak Bars” changed the head coach, after which he has not yet lost in regular time.
Avangard and Ak Bars have played 38 regular season games this season. Assets of Omsk 45 points, the “hawks” occupy the sixth line of the Conference. At the same time, Kazan is next in the standings, but is four points down. In the last six games, Avangard has only won half of the games. Ak Bars has four wins in the last six meetings, but the Kazan club have changed their head coach. Oleg Znarok was replaced by Yuri Babenko. With a new mentor, Kazan won in extra time with a score of 3:2 against Dynamo Moscow, after which they lost to Barys with the same score, but in a series of shootouts.
The teams have already met twice this season. Both matches took place within a week and ended with the victories of “Vanguard”. In Kazan “Hawks” were stronger with the score 4:3, and on their site beat “Ak Bars” in extra time (2:1). Note that the last victory of Kazan at the site of the “Vanguard” in the regular season happened a little more than a year ago – 3:1. And in the spring of this year, the clubs met at the quarter-final stage of the Eastern Conference as part of the Gagarin Cup. In this series, the “hawks” celebrated success with the score 4:2.
