Sports director “Metallurgist” Sergei Gomolyako said most KHL clubs do not support lowering the foreign player limit, but their opinion was not sought.
Earlier, the Ministry of Sports officially approved FHR’s proposal to reduce the number of foreign players in Russian KHL clubs from five to three when applying for the match.
“We were talking about the legionnaire limit. We were told that the KHL management had a different opinion, but the Ministry of Sports decided to reduce them to three people,” Gomolyako told reporters.
– What do you think of the fact that the league was confronted with a fact in such an important file?
– Here the question is no longer for me, but for Alexei Morozov. Of course, this is wrong, every opinion must be taken into account.
– Will this greatly affect your transfer policy?
– We have good guys born in 2003 and 2004 growing up. I don’t think we’ll have any big problems because of that.
– Why didn’t you even discuss this problem now?
– Because we have been given a clear understanding – it is not the decision of the league, but of the Ministry of Sports.
– You now have five foreigners in the team. Who are you going to clean?
We will see after the end of the season. I don’t think the legionnaires care about that. On the contrary, they probably think that they will find a good place where their salary will increase even more.
– Are there any KHL clubs that support lower limits?
“Two or three at most.
From now on, up to five foreign players can be included in the application for a match of a Russian KHL club. The limit does not apply to Dynamo Minsk, Kazakh Barys and Chinese Kunlun.
