President of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) Alexei Morozov recounted how the league tightened the cap on Legionnaires.
The Department of Sports on Tuesday officially approved the FHR’s proposal to tighten the limit of foreign players in the KHL to three people in the game bid. In the current league, you can enter five foreigners per game.
“As you know, we are changing the Legionnaire limit. The Ministry of Sports let go, we as obedient citizens must obey the law. Clubs have been warned to plan their signing strategy in advance. To increase the quota to three people under 21, we held a meeting after the working group, the clubs did not support this idea. Only 4 clubs were in favor of increasing the youth quota.
– You weren’t asked about the limit at all?
– Remember, it started in April, when we learned that the FHR had sent a letter to the Ministry of Sports. We met at the Ministry of Sports, expressed our position, everyone knows: five foreign players are optimal for the KHL. They gave different arguments, percentages. But according to the law, the Ministry of Sports regulates the limit for all competitions.
– How to solve the problem of termination of agreements with legionnaires with contracts for the next season?
– Statistics show that not all clubs have foreign players. It is the strategy of the clubs, as they wish. Some have one, some have two, some don’t. If we talk about next season, then we only have 6 legionnaires who have contracts for next season. And not a single club has a contract with two or more Legionnaires for next season, Morozov told reporters.
The meeting of Fonbet clubs of the KHL championship was held in Chelyabinsk.
