Vladivostok “Admiral” asked to make an exception and allow not to meet the limit of legionnaires in the KHL next season, said Dmitry Kurbatov, executive director of the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR).
On Tuesday, the Sports Ministry officially approved the proposal of the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) to tighten the limit of foreign players in the KHL to three people in the bid for the game. This season, you can register up to five foreign players per match.
– In accordance with the law on physical culture and sports, the limit of legionnaires is set by order of the Ministry of Sports. The order was issued, registered with the Ministry of Justice and entered into force. KHL chief Alexei Morozov brought the information to the clubs, said – get ready, there will be three next season.
– Admiral’s Alexei An said: “We are far away, can the limit be different for us?” He was told that it was impossible to give them another limit, although we understand that they probably need it more than others. The decision is made, we will apply it.
— Did the initiative come from the FHR?
– Not exactly, I’m not ready to start a discussion about what is good and what is bad. We have more arguments to seize. FHR initiated the decision, it was accepted by the Ministry of Sports. There have been many meetings with the ministry, the KHL. Technically, the Ministry of Sports can change the limit at least every year.
– Is it possible to come back to the discussion of this subject when the Finns, the Czechs, come to us?
– Theoretically, anything is possible. The main thing is to meet the deadlines, not to force them to withdraw from the contract.
– How will FHR assess the result?
I don’t want to get involved in this discussion. I worked in the club, in the league, I know the situation from different angles. I am not inclined to immerse myself in reasoning about the motivation, the consequences, the positive, the negative.
– Were you surprised by the negative perception of this subject?
– I haven’t heard anything from the clubs, there have been no negative messages from the KHL, I have seen negative messages in the comments. There are 50 comments under the news, mostly negative.
– People don’t understand hockey?
— I don’t know, I’m not a media specialist. I read the comments, I’m happy when the opinion coincides with mine,” Kurbatov told reporters.
