Double Olympic champion Alexander Kojevnikov believes the Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin on the strength in the years to come to break Wayne Gretzky’s record for most NHL goals scored.
Ovechkin had a hat trick and provided an assist in the regular season road game with the Chicago Blackhawks (7:3) on Tuesday. The 37-year-old Russian became the third player in NHL history to score 800 league goals. The second place in the list of snipers is occupied by Gordie Howe (801), Wayne Gretzky is in the lead (894).
– Everything is going as planned. We can only congratulate Alexandre. I think a few games – and everything will be equal to Gordie Howe. Is it possible to beat Gretzky’s record? I think it’s real. God forbid there were no injuries. But it will take at least two more seasons to catch up with Wayne. You have to understand that they already play differently against him, his opponents have studied him well. But he is certainly a fantastic player, a gladiator! Kozhevnikov told .
Ovechkin is 37 years old, the Russian has been playing in the NHL since 2005.
