No talk 3×3 hockey will replace classic – FHR

With the inclusion of the 3×3 hockey format in international competitions, there is no question that this discipline will replace classical hockey, said Deputy Director General of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Alexander Kiknadze.

On Thursday, the traditional International Hockey Forum opened in Moscow, which is being held online for the second time. The theme of the round table was the development of 3×3 hockey.

– The Ministry of Sports issued a decree at the end of August, the 3×3 discipline was registered. We can now organize official competitions, award titles and be ready for when this sport becomes Olympic.

Tardif has repeatedly said that the IIHF and the IOC are working on the inclusion of 3×3 in the 2030 Olympics. At the same time, there is no question of it replacing classic hockey. We believe that the path when we have two disciplines is the most correct. 3×3 and 5×5 hockey are inextricably linked.

The sporting public is aging, and this is a problem not only at the level of hockey, but also at the level of the Olympic movement. If I’m not mistaken, in one of the studies they came to the conclusion that the audience is already over 50, and that’s a lot. We have to rejuvenate the public, and the 3×3 format allows us to do that. The criteria will be developed separately by the IOC and the IIHF. We hope to be involved in this discussion from the start,” Kiknadze said during the forum.
