Head Coach Russian team hockey Alexei Zhamnov says the Olympic champion Ilya Kovalchuk now serves as an advisor to the national team.
As previously reported, Kovalchuk and Valery Kamensky will become Zhamnov’s advisers at the December tournament, which will be held in Moscow. At the same time, they will not receive a salary from the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR).
– What does Kovalchuk do in the national team?
“He is here with us. It’s just that because of his illness, we took him out of the guys so no one gets infected. And so he is at headquarters,” Zhamnov told reporters.
– What are its functions?
– Now we don’t have a general manager yet, it’s not necessary. Now he acts as an advisor.
In February, at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, where the Russian team won silver, Kovalchuk was part of the national team as an NHL player manager.
