The first period ended in a 1-1 draw – the Japanese responded to Dubsky’s puck with an accurate shot by Morita. The second period was fatal for the blue-yellows, as Alexander Bobkin’s team conceded four unanswered goals.
In the final segment of the meeting, Japan increased the lead in the score to five goals, but Sidorenko’s double allowed Ukraine to level the difference a little – 7:4 in favor of Japan.
This defeat was the only one for Bobkin’s team at the current World Championship. Previously, the blue-yellows beat Italy (4:0), Poland (5:2), Estonia (3:2) and South Korea (7:1).
Ukraine finished the world championship in second place, leaving behind Japan – the difference between the teams was one point. Thus, the blue-yellows could not break into the 1A division the next year.
