Competing in the 1976 Olympics, former sprinter Hugh Fraser became the head of the board of directors for the Ice Hockey Federation of Canada, according to the organization’s website.
The new composition of the council – the chief and eight members – was elected on Saturday. The board also includes two-time Olympic ice hockey champion Cassie Campbell-Pascal, Grant Borbridge, Julie Duranceau, David Evans, Marnie Fullerton, Jonathan Goldblum, Marian Dzeko and Andrea Poole. The nominations were made by an independent special committee.
The activities of the Board of Directors over the next year will be devoted to the reforms necessary to improve the management system of the federation as well as to ensure safety on and off the ice.
In October, the federation’s leadership resigned over sexual abuse scandals.
The federation has been under public scrutiny since May after settling a $3.5 million lawsuit brought by a woman who alleged that eight hockey players, including members of Canada’s 2018 junior team, had sexually assaulted her in a hotel while she was intoxicated. Earlier it emerged that police were also investigating the case, which was suspected of gang sexual harassment by Canada’s junior team in 2003.
