“Physically, playing 3×3 is more difficult”
What do you think of the 3×3 game? It’s a new movement in hockey.
– Very cool format. You immediately become emotional. It’s great that they came up with such a 3×3 game. Especially when the season kicks off, you play classic hockey every day – and then there’s a change of scenery.
I liked that a lot of fans came to see this hockey. Amazing atmosphere, thank you all for your support. But I apologize for not being able to win the tournament itself. So we will work to continue showing our best hockey.
– It’s a sensation when the Russian team loses against Kazakhstan. And the plot won’t hurt the new format.
– Maybe. But when you lose a tournament, there is nothing to celebrate. Well, not at all. So I am not satisfied with the result. But it’s good that we managed to win the match for third place against China.
— And what is the specificity of the “3×3” game? Do you always have to be on top of the news?
“Physically, playing 3×3 is more difficult. Because the site was the same as in KHL games. So I had to run more. When you play 5×5, you have a lot more options to pass and move on. And in the 3×3 format, somewhere you switch to individual actions, because your teammates are stuck, and somewhere you have to pick up the game, open up and move more. But in general, I liked this format.
“It’s not the time to change your mask for a visor yet”
– Recently you had a birthday – on December 9 you turned 18. Have you found the time to celebrate it with your family?
— My birthday was in Angarsk. I was on the road with the VHL team – with SKA-Neva. So there was not much time to celebrate. The next day was the game. We were preparing for it. Well, the birthday has passed – and has passed.
– According to the rules, you can remove your mask from 18 years old. Why haven’t you done it yet?
Actually, I haven’t decided yet. But the 3×3 tournament in Moscow is definitely not the time to change your mask for a visor. Because the tournament was important and now is not the time to experiment.
– This season started later for you, you were recovering from a summer injury you received at the junction with Alexei Emelin.
– Yes, I recovered from the injury and now I play for SKA-Neva. My job is to play. Where they say, I’m going to give my best 100%, help the team, work for them. You just need to get on the ice and show your best hockey.
– You have scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 12 VHL games. Is it better to play against men than against juniors? Here’s your draft contender, Connor Bedard, who has 64 points (27 goals, 37 goals) in 28 games in the Western Hockey League, but he’s playing on the youth team.
“As for Bédard, he did well. Score points in every game. Very talented and fast forward. The fact that he performs at the junior level is not for me to judge. The guy is always productive, he plays hockey well. And I think he also relates to this question in the following way: where they say, there he will play.
They told me to play in the VHL – I play it. I try to improve with each match, to find my form. But still, somewhere I get sick, somewhere the injury affects. But I try to reach the maximum of form as soon as possible. I train even more than before. So I will be even better soon. My goal is to score even more points and bring even more value to the team.
– What is the most difficult thing when you play in the VHL? All those trips and flights?
– I don’t even know, because I haven’t managed to play that many games in the Kontinental Hockey League. Therefore, I cannot compare it now with the All-Russian Hockey League.
But I will say that the VHL has very tough opponents. The same “Ugra”, “Rubin” – centuries-old teams, they fight and try.
“Young people don’t get any favours?” »
– Well, look, no. The same Metallurg Novokuznetsk is a very good team. There are some nice guys playing there. For example, Maxim Kitsyn, Daniil Erdakov – their names are well known, it is difficult to play against them. Unfortunately, at the beginning of December, we couldn’t beat them (2:5). But in the next face-to-face, we will try to take our revenge.
“Rothenberg is right – you still have to win the competition”
— Ivan Miroshnichenko has already made his debut in the KHL. You have already played 16 games in the KHL during your career, scored 5 points (2+3). What must be done to return to this league? Roman Rotenberg has already said that a place upstairs can only be obtained by competition.
– True, said Roman Borisovich – you always have to win the competition. And just like that, no one will trust you, let yourself play. You have to add more every day and you have to enter the queue due to the working capacity.
So that was my whole life. And it’s in all teams, not just in SKA. Therefore, my task is to work and train even more. And if about Van Miroshnichenko, then he is a very strong person. Back on the ice, I watch him. And I’m extremely happy that Vanya is now able to score. He did very well in the Youth Hockey League, but hopefully this is just the beginning for him. Then there was VHL, now I think there will be more and more KHL. I wish Vanya much success and support her.
– One of the experts compared you to Leo Messi – apparently you are of similar height. Are you looking forward to the World Cup final?
I am interested and hope to see it. I want Argentina to win. But that’s because there is no ours. If we were playing at the World Championships, I would be for the Russian team. Because I am a patriot of my country. And it’s a pity that Russia could not participate in this tournament.
– Which story of this World Cup did you like the most?
– I was the most hooked that the Moroccans reached the semi-finals. It’s unusual.
– Do you have a traditional warm-up with a soccer ball before hockey games in your team?
– Yes, there is such a warm-up. But I’m not a big fan of kicking the ball. Because I think it’s dangerous. I try to stretch one more time and get ready to roll, not play ball. You can easily hurt yourself. For example, stood unsuccessfully on the ball.
And so I really like football, and if I have free time in the summer, I can play with my friends. I love it.
What do you read while travelling? What are you looking at?
– I try to communicate as much as possible with my loved ones when I am on the move. I also watch the “Major” series, I really like it. It is rare to find a series that appeals to you. This one gets more interesting with each episode.
What do you wish for yourself in 2023?
– Health to me and my loved ones. And I would like to improve all my qualities, because I really have work to do. I know it and I don’t want to talk about it in words now. But I will prove it by doing my best every day.
