“Sasha could have passed Howe earlier so we wouldn’t wake up early.” Dynamo coach joked about Ovechkin’s sniper record

Dynamo Moscow coach Alexei Kudashov said that the Russian striker from “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin had to beat Gordie Howe early in the NHL sniper race so the Blues and Whites wouldn’t have to wake up early on game day.

On Saturday night, Ovechkin scored his 802nd NHL goal and edged Howe. Now only Wayne Gretzky is ahead of the Russian striker – 894 goals.

– Of course, I follow Ovechkin’s files. I’ve been watching every night lately. Sasha could have passed Howe earlier so we didn’t have to wake up early on game day. We constantly communicate with him. I understand how difficult it was for Ovechkin these days. Such pressure, now Sasha, probably, the burden fell off her shoulders at some stage. He now has several years ahead of him to end this case,” Kudashov told reporters.

Alexei Kudashov and Alexander Ovechkin played together for Dynamo Moscow from 2001 to 2004.
