“Ovechkin broke a lot of records. I’m sure there’s one more, the most important to come.” – Vladimir Antipov

Five-time Russian champion Vladimir Antipov shared his opinion that the “Washington” striker Alexander Ovechkin passed Canadian Gordie Howe in NHL goals.

On Friday, the Russian scored two goals in a game with Winnipeg (4-1), which became his 801st and 802nd in the NHL. Howe, who sat second in the all-time leading scorers list, had 801 more goals to score.

Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL scoring record with 894.

“It’s the greatest achievement in hockey history. Like all Russians, I am proud that it was our compatriot who did this. Alexandre is really a great player. He broke many records. I’m sure there’s one more, the most important.

– What was your impression of Ovechkin when you played with him for the Russian national team?

– Sasha has always been a leader and a superstar in the field, but in life he remained a simple guy who is easy to communicate with.

– So it was already clear that he was going to break records?

“When Ovechkin was 17, it was already clear that he was going to break records,” Antipov told RB Sport.
