– We came here after two defeats and gave an incredible and spectacular match. Your opinion?
– It was a match where we had to find ourselves, our game and feel confident, show solid hockey. And this match was a kind of benchmark through which you show that you can succeed in this league.
What made the difference in the game?
You may have noticed some desperate play on our part. All the guys gave themselves to the game, sacrificed themselves somewhere. There were a lot of explosions, bursts and stops, pauses. The opponent acted in a similar style. Our game in the majority played a big role. We acted selflessly in our zone and under the gate, trying not to let the puck through.
– Do you like Goldobin’s hat-trick? Third in my career.
Goldie is an incredibly gifted offensive player. This is exactly what we need from him. Even if he doesn’t score every game, which is quite difficult, his play in the offensive zone gives us a lot of confidence. That night his stick was hot and he did a great job helping us win.
— Koshechkin played 750 games in the League. What can you say about Vasily?
“It’s a great honor to be on the ice with him and in the locker room. He made a great contribution to the history of Metallurg, his career is incredible. It is therefore a great pleasure to be alongside such a player and to help him win.
— Kazan Burmistrov recently joined the team. What did he bring?
“He’s a guy with leadership qualities, he’s played a lot in this league, he’s been successful. He plays well in defence, his arrival has created depth for us in the group. He’s also a good person, he speaks English very well, so it’s a great success to have brought him into our club.
Did you watch the World Cup? Who were you rooting for?
— Yes, of course, a very interesting tournament. He supported Argentina, including Messi. Also followed Ronaldo. These two are athletes with a capital letter, the best players in the world, real professionals. Their careers definitely impress me.
– Who do you think is Hockey Messi?
– Goldobin (smiles). Actually, it’s hard to say, there are so many great players in the KHL, but I’ll focus on Nikolai.
– And in the NHL? Can Ovechkin break Gretzky’s record?
– I think a few seasons and it will update the record. He can certainly be put on the same level as Messi, an incredible player.
