President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) Vladislav Tretyak shared his expectations for 2023 and named the ‘Washington’ striker Alexandra Ovechkina best hockey player of the year.
In 2022, Ovechkin came second on the list of all-time leading scorers in NHL history. Now the Russian has 803 goals, he beat Gordie Howe (801) and continues to chase Wayne Gretzky (894).
– This hockey year belongs to Sasha Ovechkin, who became a legend during his lifetime. Ovechkin is the hockey player of the year. His records and his legacy are the pride of Russia. Therefore, I will call Sasha the best hockey player and one of the best athletes in Russia.
Also, our KHL championship has shown itself very well this year, hockey faces all the difficulties and continues to delight the public.
What am I expecting from 2023? I live for hockey, I’ve always lived only for it. When I played and when I became president of the FHR in the name of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, I only thought about hockey and its development in our country. Therefore, I can have only one wish for the New Year – that our youth, women’s and men’s teams, the Olympic ice hockey team, participate in international competitions.
