He is still the second-highest scorer in NHL history, but he closed the gap to 88 goals with Canadian great Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky has 894 goals. Ovechkin also scored 37 goals in 53 games with Montreal, the most among active players.

The second star of the day was Buffalo Sabers forward Alex Tuck. He scored 4 (2+2) points in a game with the Boston Bruins (4:3 OT).
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn was named the third star of the day. He scored the game-winning goal in a 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes.
