Former head coach of the Russian national ice hockey team Vyacheslav Bykov regretted that Russian athletes were deprived of the opportunity to compete on the international stage for most of last year, noting that sooner or later fans will appreciate their victories.
The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February recommended that international federations prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to events in Ukraine. Many federations have followed these recommendations.
– A very difficult year. Unfortunately, our athletes did not have the opportunity to participate in the international arena and show the full power of our sport, admire the talents of our guys. We believe that the time will come and that the joy of our athletes’ victories will be a balm to water the hearts of Russians!
And so, of course, this year was marked by the World Cup and the magnificent victory of the Argentines! With pleasure I enjoyed football, albeit from the world of hockey. And no matter how trivial these words seem, I want to wish peace all over the world,” Bykov told Sport24.
